This is an instillation that I did for the Green Long Beach Festival with my friends and peers from Cal State Long Beach.  If it weren’t for their help and energy it would not have been completed.  This was a one day event from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. celebrating the earth through education, entertainment, workshops, art, and delicious foods.
This piece is called Waves & Wishes.  When onlookers approached, I asked for them to participate in the instillation by writing a wish or thought about the earth and our environment on a small piece of paper that was inserted into a used plastic bottle.  The bottles were then tied to the chain link fence into a sea of cut up used clothing.  This act was to symbolize the materialization of ones wish and also as an ironic modern day take of the wish in a bottle that floats in the sea.  No longer are our wishes allowed to travel in glass bottles, but instead plastic.  I wanted to bring awareness of the extensive and destructive exploits of one-time use plastics and the dangers to our oceans and its living creatures those plastics present.  All the used clothing and bottles for this instillation were collected through the collaboration of the Long Beach Community.

Finished!  I was hoping to have more time than one day so I could add more wishes, but it had to be torn down at 10 p.m.

Again, thanks to all my friends for helping me tear it down, or I may have been there till midnight.
